Job Summary:
The Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College invites applications for the position of Technical Coordinator & Event Support of Conservatory Audio. This is a 12-month, full-time, Administrative and Professional Staff appointment beginning on July 1, 2026.
The Conservatory Audio Services Technical Coordinator & Event Support position will report to the Director of Conservatory Audio Services, and work closely with the Director, the Senior Associate Director, the Assistant Director of Conservatory Audio Services and the Conservatory Concert Production Office.
The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation's oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college. Students are enrolled in undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in performance, jazz studies, composition, technology in music and related arts, recording arts and production, music theater, and musicology. Oberlin also offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Music in conducting, the Master of Music in performance on historical instruments, the Master of Fine Arts in piano technology, and artist diplomas.
The Technical Coordinator & Event Support position will assist in the direction and operation of the Audio Services Department and contribute to ongoing efforts to bolster audio literacy in the Conservatory. The department is charged with recording, live-streaming, and archiving the Conservatory's 400+ yearly performance events. The Department also provides sound reinforcement services as needed and produces commercial-quality material for the Oberlin Music recording label.
Responsibilities:
The Technical Coordinator & Event Support position is responsible for maintaining facilities, equipment, and software used by both the Audio Services (Con Audio) and Recording Arts & Production (RA&P) program. This includes 9 performance venues, 7 control rooms, 8 audio and video self-record systems and a centralized equipment storage and checkout center.
The Technical Coordinator & Event Support will work with the Assistant Director in supporting an extensive range of performances of various instrumentation and staffing in a multitude of venues. These performances range from ensembles of historic period instruments and multimedia interactive presentations to large-scale orchestras, choirs, and jazz ensembles. In addition, extensive solo and chamber repertoire is performed throughout the year.
The Technical Coordinator & Event Support must possess the skills and technical knowledge to support, record, and stream these performances, and to produce recordings of exceptional quality in a wide variety of styles.
The Technical Coordinator & Event Support will assist in the management of a student staff, undertake special projects, and complete other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in a music-related area and experience as an audio engineer with significant professional level experience with recording, sound reinforcement, and production of classical music, jazz, and mixed genres. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to manage people and projects, have strong, well-developed interpersonal skills, including working with artists and supervisees, and have an interest in teaching and mentoring students. Experience in audio editing, sound reinforcement systems, comprehensive knowledge of video and streaming systems, and excellent computer skills are required. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and anytime assistance is needed with audio production.
