Job SummaryThe Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks a Mechanical Engineer to help us with an audacious project - communicating with whales. As part of Project CETI (Cetacean Translation Initiative), a project funded by TED, we are designing whale tags and deployment systems to decipher the communication of whales. We are designing whale tags loaded with sensors to measure depth, movement, light, and sound while sticking to the whales (using suction cups). These tags will be deployed and recovered with a network of autonomous drones to families of well-studied whales in the Caribbean. The data we collect then gets analyzed by world-class machine learning researchers.
