1.Summary Kostas Research Institute at Northeastern University is seeking a motivated Research Engineer II/III with experience in power electronics. The primary responsibility of the candidate is to oversee, execute, and communicate research across multiple projects and interdisciplinary teams. The candidate should have a strong background in power electronics and be familiar with power system design and simulation/modeling, solid state transmitters, high voltage design, power sources, generators. A basic understanding of compound semiconductor processing and manufacturing; materials and materials growth (Including GaAs and GaN), reliability of devices and materials; testing, characterization and development of power components, equipment, systems, sub-systems, and networks will be required. The candidate must have interest in managing highly collaborative research efforts with scientists and engineers. It is expected that the candidate will also contribute to, and lead research grant/proposals and reports, write manuscripts, and provide technical oversight of junior team members. Hands-on experience in test/validation of materials using MIL-STD, ISO, and ASTM standards is a plus.
The position is with KRI at Northeastern University, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Northeastern University, and is primarily located at Northeastern University's Innovation Campus at Burlington, MA. Close partnership with, and support of the KRI Senior Scientists for DoD and industry contracts are required.
MS or PhD in Power Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
2+ years' experience in overall system design with proven leadership ability and a portfolio of successful projects.
Expert proficiency with simulation and analytical software tools (e.g. SPICE, CAD, VHDL or Verilog, Ansoft HFSS, HP ADS, and MatLab/Simulink software).
Proven track record of ability to manage and prioritize assigned tasks/projects simultaneously through communication with engineers/scientists/interns to meet the expectations and needs of the company.
Strong technical expertise and demonstrated independence in the design and execution of experiments.
Excellent communication skills including oral presentations and written technical reports.
Experience representing the company at off-site locations with customers.
Experience in test/validation of materials using MIL-STD, ISO, and ASTM standards is preferred.
Experience executing DoD sponsored programs is preferred.
US Citizenship with ability to obtain clearance required; active DoD security clearance or above with ability to obtain Special Access clearance desired.
