This role is on the New Product Development team within the R&D department at Sage Products, a business unit within Stryker. This role will involve design and development of new medical devices that support the mission of Sage - creating simple interventions with extraordinary outcomes. The individual will be involved throughout the entire product development cycle from concept to launch, working closely with other disciplines within R&D to ensure products are developed effectively, safely and efficiently.
What you will do
Independently research, design, develop, modify, and verify components, modules and sub-systems for medical devices.
Translate user needs to design inputs/ specifications and produce system level designs with some guidance.
Conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing.
Analyze and correct complex product design issues using independent judgment.
Collaborates with our Market Intelligence & Regulatory teams, as well as customers to better understand business and clinical needs.
Drives the alignment of Regulatory and Market Intelligence on product claims and launch strategies through product testing
Develops design documentation to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.
Develops technical updates/presentations to management and stakeholders.
Advance solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of customer needs, market and competitive offerings.
Apply detailed knowledge of clinical procedures to author design inputs.
Support Voice of Customer sessions internally and with clinicians.
Demonstrate developing financial and project management acumen.
Med Device Compliance:
Be proficient with and mentor others in usage of industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations.
Lead creation and refinement of engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.
Follow and mentor others on R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
Work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
Identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems and technology.
Support and execute segments of complex multifunctional teams to advance projects through the design/development/launch process.
Deliver high quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build partnerships to achieve business objectives.
Minimum Qualifications: What you will need (must have)
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent degree/experience.
4+ years of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: What you will need (strongly desired)
Strong technical ability to develop and optimize designs for mechanical / electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating DFM principles
Strong technical ability in creating engineering drawings, models, applying GD&T and CAD tools
Adept at applying knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to product design.
Ability to communicate moderate complexity plans and technical information to team members.
Preferred Skills / Engineering tools:
Demonstrated advanced sketching and/or 3D software skills (CREO preferred)
Direct knowledge of the manufacturing methods used for our products, including injection molding, sewing, and high-speed automated assembly..
Has experience with all aspects of the product development process from concept development to market or kill. Able to give guidance for product development to less experienced engineers
Demonstrated innovative approaches to problem solving.
