Wade Kawasaki is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Legendary Companies and joined the company in 2010. He has over 30 years of experience in automotive aftermarket businesses. Additionally, Mr. Kawasaki previously served as Chairman of Specialty Equipment Market Association (“SEMA”). SEMA is the leading trade association within the industry, consisting of a diverse group of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, publishing companies, auto restorers, street-rod builders, restylers, car clubs, race teams and more. Each year, SEMA hosts an enormous trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is where manufacturers unveil their latest offerings, while buyers, distributors and members of the press come to see it all.
Irving Place Capital (“IPC”) partnered with Wade Kawasaki and the management team to acquire the business in November of 2018, as a continuation of the firm’s focus on specialty manufacturing and distribution companies. The Plant Manager/ Engineering Manager is the resident leader for all manufacturing activities at the City of Industry location. This position is the site leader for safety, regulatory compliance and facility management for all departments. The incumbent also provides management of inventory control, product planning, and procurement. A focus on safety, manufacturing performance, quality, profitability, efficiencies and communication is essential for success.
Safety & Maintenance
o Ensures compliance with all safety and environmental rules, laws and regulations. Utilizes a dedicated safety program consistently and oversee training objectives to maximize effectiveness.
o Continually evaluates the current safety status and provides oversight for maintenance of the facility according to state and federal guidelines.
o Maintains a working knowledge of OHSA in an industrial environment.
Manufacturing and Operations Management
o Builds strong relationships and provides solid leadership for the following Wheel Vintiques departments: Manufacturing, Procurement, Inventory Control and Production Planning.
o Promotes the Legendary Companies culture of top-quality products and customer service; builds team awareness of our goals and objectives.
o Establishes positive and productive working relationships to enhance employee engagement.
o Fosters an environment that values critical thinking, problem solving and constructive feedback at all levels.
o Facilitates the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives. Mentors department managers on accomplishing their goals and objectives.
o Effectively communicates decisions, policies and all matters that affect team performance, attitudes and results. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
o Ensures compliance with current federal, state and local regulations. Consults with Human Resources Department as appropriate.
o Ensures all manufacturing areas are configured to provide safety and maximum production. Ensures productivity standards are maintained.
o Formulates manufacturing policies and programs that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.
o Identifies and implements changes to improve productivity and reduce cost and scrap.
o Ensures that all incoming and outgoing merchandise is monitored to protect inventory integrity while optimizing order fulfillment. Ensures timely processing of all transactions.
o Maintains and enhances inventory control systems that will improve material flow and track inventory accuracy.
o Partners with supply vendors to ensure cost efficient quality product and services.
o Maintains a site P&L reporting package that details the performance of all manufacturing activities.
Project Planning and Execution
o Directs and coordinates various programs essential to manufacturing procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.).
o Initiates and coordinates major projects (e.g., layout changes, installation of equipment, etc.)
Quality & Process Improvement
o Champions continuous improvement initiatives for optimal quality and efficiency standards. Leads efforts to define new processes, establish specifications for suppliers, and ensure comprehensive metrics for the facility are established and consistently followed.
o Develops the manufacturing plan and establishes procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations to ensure that products conform to established customer and company quality standards.

The candidate will be a professional with significant experience in a manufacturing environment. This individual must be personable, dynamic, and innovative, with exceptional strategic and analytical skills; additionally, this individual must be an energetic, day-to-day “roll-your-sleeves-up” team player and possess the following:
Bachelor of Engineering Degree or related Manufacturing Degree
5+ years of leading manufacturing operations
10+ years manufacturing experience with a demonstrated understanding of related principles and processes
Six Sigma Certification preferred
Excellent communication and presentation skills
The ability to demonstrate or provide solid examples of project management skills, performance management (supervising, coaching, and training), problem solving, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement
The desire and ability to be a change champion
The Plan Manager / Engineering Manager position will be based in City of Industry, CA, reporting directly to the VP of Operations at Legendary Companies.
There will be limited local business travel associated with this position.
