Reports To: Chair of the Art and Technology Program, Manager of AV/Media Services Supervises: Prieto Lab teaching assistant
Summary of Position: Under the direction of the Manager of AV/Media Services, works as a member of the A/V team supporting the A/V needs of the College. This position works in collaboration with the Chair of the Art and Technology Program to assist in the planning, design, and operation of facilities and programs for electronic arts, experimental video, multimedia lab, and video editing suites; provide technical assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors; maintain and install equipment and infrastructure.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop integrated project plans, implementation schedules, and cost estimates for major, long-term Art and Technology program projects; perform periodic cost and productivity analyses.
Work with the A/V Department to ensure that A/V needs throughout the College are met in a timely manner. This position will back-up the other A/V team members as needs demand.
Communicate regularly with executive management and administration regarding the status of current project initiatives; obtain executive guidance and approval as required to advance initiatives.
Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems; participate in professional development activities as appropriate.
Research products, solutions, and industry trends for Art and Technology program hardware, software, and desktop server products.
Design and direct the technical operations of video and multimedia facilities and programs in coordination with the Departments of Art, Dance, Music & the Olin Library.
Install and maintain equipment and infrastructure including multimedia lab, video editing systems, and computer hardware and software.
Research new technologies, software, and hardware, in support of graduate and undergraduate multimedia fine arts curriculum. Evaluate, price, and order new equipment.
Assist the Director of ITS in the management and maintenance of the Art and Technology Program Operating Budget.
Provide technical assistance to students, faculty, and visiting artists for special programs and events.
Operate computers, soldering tools, hand and power tools, audio and video recording devices and a variety of other machines and equipment as assigned.
Train and provide work direction to teaching assistants in daily operations of the multimedia lab and video editing suites.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Participate in systems review and planning internal to the Art and Technology program, and in planning for other teams' projects - both ITS and elsewhere in the community.
Participate in management meetings with ITS and other departments for project planning and direction setting.
Organize acquisition of new equipment for the Art and Technology program; advise and facilitate acquisition of new equipment for other departments and offices.
Operate a variety of audio-visual, theatre and office equipment.
Prepare and maintain records and reports related to the Art and Technology program.
Perform related duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
Analog and digital audio/video systems
Audio/Video recording and editing techniques
Computer networking, multimedia software development and management
Basic computer programming applicable to audio, video and software deployment
Methods and procedures of operating Art and Technology equipment, computers, software, and peripheral equipment
Basic soldering skills and mechanical repair
Excellent trouble-shooting on computer software and hardware, and Art and Technology equipment
Project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools
Preparation of written reports and correspondence
Documentation and inventory creation/maintenance
Advanced verbal and written communication skills
Federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of AV/Media technology
Current technological developments/trends in area of expertise
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment
Safety policies, practices, procedures and requirements of the department, College, and Illness & Injury Prevention Plan
Design, implement, explain, repair, and maintain analog and digital audio/video systems
Oversee daily studio operations and carry out routine administrative procedures
Operate computers and peripheral equipment properly and efficiently
Provide technical assistance to computer systems users
Assist students to provide technical support for the Art and Technology Thesis Show
Communicate with musicians, artists and dancers regarding contemporary art composition and performance
Develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
Organize resources and establish priorities
Develop project budgets and projections
Maintain complex records and be able to prepare complete and concise reports
Time management skills and the ability to handle multiple projects requiring independent execution
Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
Understand and carry out oral and written directions; work under pressure and deadlines
Examine and re-engineer operations and procedures, formulate policy, and develop and implement new strategies and procedures
Provide technical guidance and instruction to users on the use of computer technologies

Education and Training:
Advanced degree preferred
Or the equivalent in experience and education (1-3 years of directly related job experience)
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands:
Work involves sitting for long hours and using office equipment. The incumbent will often spend long hours on the computer.
Work sometimes requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as climbing, lifting and carrying heavy objects over 50 pounds, and crawling under furniture.
All of the campus will need to be visited by walking, climbing, or driving.
Interruptions and meeting with a variety of people will be required on a regular basis.
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress.
Occasional evening or weekend work may be required as business needs demand.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 10 days of vacation for year one, 15 days of vacation for years 2-10, and 22 days of vacation years 10+ plus, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review). Staff members also receive free admission to campus events, use of the pool, fitness center, and tennis courts. Tuition remission is also available after an introductory period.
