The Center for Applied Energy Research is currently seeking an Engineer Technician Senior for our Materials Technologies Group. This position will join one of the University of Kentucky's multidisciplinary research centers, which investigates energy technologies which contribute to technically sound policies related to coal, energy and the environment.
The Materials Technologies Group has focus on developing viable technologies for producing high value carbon materials from Kentucky's fossil resources, as well as developing advances in novel materials for manufacturing, energy, environment and technological progress.
The group is actively seeking applicants to the Engineering Technician Senior positions. The group has several active projects in carbon fiber process development in need of engineering technician assistance. Applicants with experience in extrusion processing, polymer processing, fiber processing and high temperature processing are particularly encouraged to apply. Future projects will include the need for a diverse set of materials processing skills.
The Engineer Tech Sr. is mid-level in the series. Incumbents use tools/equipment requiring specialized knowledge/skills such as understanding electrical schematics, flow sheets, and technical manuals. Responsible for solving varied, highly complex, difficult problems. Activities involve significant levels of concentration/mental attention, operation, set-up & troubleshooting of materials processing trials, and materials testing. Attention to detail & safety, record keeping, sample logging, and general organization are required. Much of the work revolves about iterative process trials and development.
Basic understandings in the areas of machine operation, mechanics/drives, plumbing, welding, wiring, and other similar trades.
