The University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research is actively recruiting/conducting an ongoing search to fill position(s) in its Power Generation and Utility Fuels research group. Experience/expertise in several of the areas below is preferred: system control, process simulation, unit operation, heat transfer, process integration, coal conversion, fluidization, gas separation, CO2 capture, chemical looping combustion/gasification, power plant emission reduction and water treatment.
The successful candidate must continually be safety conscious, self-motivated, reliable, be able to participate in the pilot-scale study that will require climbing stairs and ladders, and be able to travel between in-field study and home office. Because of compelling public safety requirements, this position may require pre-employment drug screening and follow-up random drug and alcohol screening during the period of work and research activity occurring at a commercial utility site.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

PhD chemistry, geochemistry, geology, and engineering or other physical science.
