The Advanced Analytical Laboratory Section in the Advanced Material Research Department is actively seeking an analytical chemist with expertise to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers working to solve problems at the leading edge of tire technology. This is a fast paced and collaborative role, where innovative contribution is encouraged and expected. A successful R&D scientist/engineer will be responsible for independently leading research and combining advanced analytical method development using spectroscopic, chromatographic, chemometric, and laboratory automation tools with material science, polymer science, and tire technology needs.
Typical duties would include:
Conduct innovative analytical chemistry research, while balancing needs to utilize existing analytical methods to advance other initiatives within the organization.
Work with a diverse cross-functional team to validate new materials and tire concepts through advanced analytical experimentation.
Assesses new technology potential through research publications, technical literature, conferences, universities, patents, and monitoring outside research activities of other companies.
Support a wide array of business units through efficient problem solving and expert technical knowledge.
Analyze test results and communicate them effectively in summary reports and presentations.
Mentoring others in his or her expertise.
Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, or a related technical discipline
Extensive hands on experience and knowledge of chromatography (e.g., LC, LC-MS, GC, GC-MS) and/or spectroscopy (e.g., FTIR)
Experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, and calibrating laboratory equipment and analytical instruments and working with instrument vendors to ensure efficient lab operations
Knowledge of chromatographic/spectroscopic characterization methods used in polymer chemistry, low molecular weight polymers, elastomers, resin chemistry, or silane chemistry
Self-motivated and able to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously with a sense of urgency
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in teams
Domestic and international travel is sometimes required
Previous exposure to rubber, polymers, and/or tire industry
Proficiency in multivariate and chemometric statistical analysis and modeling of analytical chemistry data
Strong applied computing skills, including data manipulation & statistical analysis applications (e.g., Excel, Matlab, Minitab); ability to master data-acquisition software packages (e.g., LabView)
