Process / Project Engineer (1803728) – Geismar, LA
Where the Chemistry Happens
You will provide process and project engineering support for projects at various BASF sites supporting the BASF Corporation 2025 growth strategy. This expertise helps ensure the investment meets the cost, schedule and quality requirements of the responsible Business Unit. These projects and related activities are managed by a professional like you, who works with internal partners and sponsors to develop project scopes, execution strategy, and implementation phases. You will be responsible for successful execution of the projects assigned, and will be instrumental in supporting overall organization goals, programs, and initiatives, such as safety, maintenance and documentation.
This role will be located at the Geismar site reporting to FTN/E, Houston. There is a long- term potential to be located in Houston and there is the potential you could become an embedded engineer for an extended period of time (months) at the site that you are supporting. You will also support the Project Manager and / or the Engineering Manager in the following activities:
Support project activities to ensure execution is in alignment with state project requirements.
Responsible for maintaining the project cost, schedule and functionality for projects.
Leads project team in developing project scopes, generating cost estimates, and prepares funding requests on site engineering projects. Responsible for leading and organizing applicable value based engineering (best practices) to optimize project scope, execution and costs on site engineering projects.
Provide quality assurance and control during the design phase of the project.
Consults with operations, vendors and construction contractors throughout design, construction and startup for projects.
Coordinates interdisciplinary activities/information with discipline counterparts (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Piping) for projects.
Monitor the activities of the Engineering Partner on projects.
Leads the Safety Reviews and assures that the process safety aspects are acceptable for projects.
Can support projects and site activities as a site embedded engineer for extended periods of time (several months).
Perform complex and diverse assignments utilizing an in-depth and broad knowledge of involved scientific theory and principals, practices and/or precedents.
In depth knowledge of the BASF Corporation's products and processes
Utilizes constructive thinking to define and analyze a variety of problems and alternatives for solutions
May represent BASF to business unit or to oversee counterparts.
Manages engineering function for a small to medium group of in house or contractor engineers.
Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Formula for Success
Leveraging your educational background in an Engineering discipline (preferably Chemical Engineering) combined with your relevant work experience in a chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment you will provide process and project engineering support for projects at various BASF sites supporting the BASF Corporation 2025 growth strategy.
Your demonstrated experience of project engineering will allow you to work with internal partners and sponsors to develop project scopes, execution strategy, and implementation phases
Your working knowledge of Global Capital practices and Global contractor work processes is needed to perform the role.
Your working knowledge of BASF's products and processes is highly preferred.
Your ability to work on multiple projects and tasks at one time is essential for successful project execution.
Your excellent communication skills, organization, coordination and leadership skills are vital in leading and organizing applicable value based engineering (best practices) to optimize project scope
