Under minimal supervision is responsible for Journeyman A level plumbing work including construction, repair and installation of various plumbing systems, equipment and fixtures on the Chicago campus.
Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems which include water supply piping, drain piping and vent lines;
Installs, repairs, and maintains process piping systems and associated equipment;
Installs, repairs, maintains, and tests back flow preventers;
Installs and repairs reverse osmosis and distilled water piping;
Installs, repairs, and maintains building sprinkler systems;
Maintains and tests fire lines and standpipes;
Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; maintains records of work performed and parts used;
Must be available and capable of responding to irregularities during evenings and weekends ensuring 24 hour, 7 day per week coverage;
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School diploma, GED or equivalent combination of educational training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
Training and /or developmental experience equivalent to full apprenticeship in plumbing with a minimum of four years relevant and related work experience;
Illinois license required and CDL preferred;
Good knowledge of tools, methods, and standard trade safety practices;
Must be able to pour lead joints, and work with polyethylene and glass pipe;
Excellent knowledge of plumbing codes;
Ability to communicate with campus customers in a friendly manner;
Ability to exercise professional independent judgment in work and problem solving situations with minimal direct supervision;
Must be very reliable, customer and quality conscious;

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
7-9 years advanced plumbing work.
Self-directed individual with leadership skills;

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts;
Ability to write precise, well-organized emails, letters and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
Willingness to stay current on technical/professional information and identify methods for improving work procedures or systems.
