Job Description
SABIC is seeking an experienced individual to lead its Global Agency Relations & Application Risk Team. In this role, the successful candidate will manage a global team of engineers that liaises with international agencies (UL, IEC, ASTM, FAA, etc.) and participate in the development of regulations and standards that help drive the specification of SABIC materials in regulated/standardized markets including Electronics, Aerospace, Railways, Wire & Cable, and Business Equipment. The global team is responsible for assessing and managing application risk associated with new business opportunities identified by the global commercial teams. The candidate is also responsible for monitoring the regulations and standards landscape in developing countries such as China, India, Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and lead a staff of international engineers chartered with global regulations and standards development as well as the implementation of the Application Risk Management (FAST) process. • Ensure team priorities are aligned with the agency needs of the Specials, Performance and SF&S business units. • Global staffing and mentoring of technical direct reports • Develop and manage a service budget for third-party compliance testing, agency membership fees and agency consultants. • Routinely monitor the global regulatory landscape for new standards developments in emerging markets, such as photovoltaic, solar thermal, LED and green electronics • Deliver annual agency and risk management training to global commercial teams • Be an active member of the polar application review committees to ensure consistent implementation of the review process • Provide routine technical support to the Legal team in the event of high profile claims or disputes involving SABIC materials

Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:

• Deep application development knowledge including plastic design, material selection and conversion processes • Working knowledge of global regulatory and standards agencies that mandate the end-use performance of plastic applications in markets such as Electronics, Transportation and Infrastructure. • Basic understanding of polymer chemistry, resin formulations and typical plastics additives, especially flame retardants • Familiarity with third-party listing agencies such as UL, NSF, US FDA, etc. • Familiarity with standards bodies such UL, IEC, ASTM, ISO, ASME, etc. • Must have the ability to distill large amounts of technical, often complex, information and summarize for business leaders and/or non-technical colleagues. • Must possess excellent communication and influencing skills, both verbally and in writing. • Must be a self-starter with uncompromising integrity and have a passion for excellence

Qualifications/Education:

• Masters degree in mechanical or plastics engineering • Minimum of 10 years experience in plastics industry

Desired Skills:

• Doctorate in engineering or science • Prior experience managing or interacting with a global team • Prior experience with UL or IEC standards • Well-established network within SIP commercial and technology organizations • Prior experience in root cause investigations and technical report writing
