Job Description
Purpose of Role

• Actively participate in the strategic development of Global SABIC-wide product stewardship policies, standards, and strategy (e.g. standards, best practices, etc.) for SABIC to ensure product compliance with government regulatory requirements, ISO 14001, international and major customer standards and Responsible Care

• Support SBU needs globally by framing the regulatory environment (outside-in) and building contingency plans that allow SABIC to meet customer & regulatory compliance needs

• Coordinate the Green Chemistry aspects of the Sustainability program of SABIC IP

• Act as Stewardship key contact for the S-IP Base Resins/Performance Products/Sheet & Film BUs

Responsibilities

• To monitor all relevant laws, regulations and industry standards in the field of product compliance such as food, toys, automotive, E&E, construction, environment, product registration, classification and labeling

• To proactively inform the SBUs on the impact (short term/long term) of these regulations and standards on their products and business and advise them of necessary actions needed

• To monitor, evaluate and approve new product recipes and recipe changes for SABIC products

• Lead chemical advocacy efforts for key raw materials and products through external industry organizations (e.g. ACC).

• Develop strategic plans in concert with these organizations to prevent unfair regulations or trade practices from developing, to secure surety of supply, and license-to-sell/manufacture

• Manage and coordinate external product certifications/notifications/registrations to support existing business and to secure business growth

• To co-ordinate the implementation within SABIC of specific regulations

• Prepare, as required, experimental MSDS’ for new products in the SABIC pipeline prior to commercialization

• Engage in food contact and chemical compliance audits as a regional auditor in support of EHS Assurance activities

• Provide Sustainability program assistance by conducting chemical risk assessments, outreach to Customers and 3rd Party certification partners on the evaluation criteria for products, and monitoring global activity in Green Chemistry

Requirements
Education & Training

• Technical degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Advanced degree (M.S., Ph.D.) preferred

Experience

• 5+ years of professional experience

• Petro or Chemical Industry experience in Technology or Regulatory Affairs/Product Safety

• Good understanding of polymer chemistry

Competencies

• Good knowledge of SABIC Business and Operations Processes (preferred)

• Strong interpersonal and influencing skills

• Ability to effectively monitor regulatory developments and industry trends

• Strong quantitative & analytical skills • Strong written & oral communication skills
