CFRTP Process Development Engineer - Winona MN

Ticona Engineering Polymers is a leading global supplier of engineered thermoplastics having advanced mechanical, chemical and thermal performance. These plastics are often chosen over metal, ceramic and glass to help reduce component weight, consolidate parts and meet tough specifications. About the Winona, MN facility: • Established in 1980 as Polymer Composites Inc. (PCI) • Became part of the Ticona family in 1986 • The facility, constructed in 1991, is located between the rolling bluffs of the beautiful Mississippi River Valley in Winona, Minn., about 120 miles southeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn. • Principal Products: Celstran and Compel Purpose and Summary of position:

Responsible for the process development of continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastics (CFRTP) pultruded products with various fiber reinforcements and thermoplastic polymer matrices. • This person will be gathering input from the sales and marketing team, as well as customers, in order to facilitate the development of new products, using both novel & existing process methods to meet or exceed their requirements • This job will require close collaboration with various tooling & equipment manufacturers, design companies, raw material vendors and internal departments, (e.g. analytics & testing, R&D of other product lines, and CAE/CFD/CAD support) • Developing process technology for multiple composite designs by combining thermoplastic polymers and fibers via pultrusion process • This position will also encompass working with plant engineering on the scale-up process for production

NOTES: Employer will assist with relocation costs.
Additional Salary Information: 10% annual bonus target; 401k with 100% match up top 5%; Pansion Plan pays 5%/year.

Requirements
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: • Candidates must have at least 5 years of related experience (see below) and a BS degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering • Related experience in thermoplastic pultrusion, or similar field, (e.g. thermoplastic extrusion and developing innovative solutions to complex problems) • Experience processing various fiber reinforcements and thermoplastic polymers • Ability to manage multiple projects • Good oral and written communication skills • Self-motivator with a strong desire for hands-on development • Ability to work in a team environment • Experience with designing and specifying die tooling for plastic processing

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• MS degree highly desired and PhD preferred • Experience in thermoset pultrusion is a plus • Polymer formulation / compound development experience • Experience working with process control and automation systems • Trained in Design for Six-Sigma (DFSS) • Knowledge or experience in die/tooling design principles • Experience in melt rheology principles • Experience working with patent attorneys to protect formulation/product/process IP, etc. • Experience managing fairly large projects from R&D to production
