The Director of Tooling Operations will be based out of Buffalo Grove, IL and support the launches of all new tool builds across the High Reliability Solutions segment’s (HRS) Precision Plastics Group. The Director of Tooling Operations will also lead multiple plant teams as relating to on-time deliveries, qualifications and validations of molds, and assure successful implementation of molds/molding systems at the site level.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…
Oversee tooling engineering operations in support of all NPI activities.
Manage large injection mold tooling projects for both medical and consumer products
Coordinate with other team members during mold qualification, sampling and final part approval
Quote large injection mold tooling projects, including required auxiliary equipment
Heavy involvement ion troubleshooting issues with production molds
Develop outside tooling sources as needed
Coordinate tool adjustment/repair activity as needed during debug and qualification
Coordinate mold design reviews with tool vendors
Coordinate implementation of cost effective tool design changes/improvements
Involvement in DFM/FMEA activities both internally and with customers
Lead initiatives to increase throughput, reduce cost and improve performance in constrained areas.
Provide status reports to management and customers as needed
Evaluate projects, provide guidance and technical information to others, assist in qualification activities, analyze resulting data and assist with preparation of qualification reports
Assist in determining and establishing requirements for qualification activities
Make independent decisions related to tooling qualification activities
Bring critical exceptions or deviations to management’s attention and propose compliant solutions
Recommend to management as to the acceptance and release of qualified systems
Initiate and enforce necessary improvements and corrections, attend meetings pertinent to validation.
Maintain and improve standard operating procedures within the department
Establish priorities and schedule activities to ensure timelines and milestones are met
Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…
B.A. or B.S. in Engineering or related field
Minimum 20 years of experience in plastic injection mold manufacturing and processing for medical product applications
Experience in qualification of complex, high cavitation, tight tolerance injection molds
Knowledge of the regulatory and cGMP regulations for medical device manufacturing operations, and validation procedures and practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and communication skills required.
Demonstrate knowledge of Injection Mold Design and Injection Mold Processing technologies
Knowledge of statistics
Travel Required, varies by project. (50-70%)
