Reports to Director of Engineering. This position interacts with personnel from all locations and departments. Provides work direction to plant personnel, project engineers and manages outside vendors and contractors for the implementation of assigned projects. Provides project and task support to personnel in Engineering, NPD, Process Engineering, Marketing and other departments as applicable. Interacts with Accounting staff as required to manage project budgets, spending and purchasing transactions. Supports, assigns and directs activities to various Supervisors of Maintenance, Maintenance personnel, vendors and contractors.
Responsible for all aspects of project management from concept, approval, implementation and qualification, defines specifications or desired outcomes by developing request for quotes (RFQ) and vendor development for capital projects. Provides guidance to Project Engineering and Process Engineering with respect to process development via equipment modification or procurement. Supports plant engineering/maintenance providing solutions to problematic situations. Provides support for site safety and OSHA compliance.
Responsible for safety of plant engineering and maintenance personnel as well as that of contract labor.
Responsible for maintaining equipment in safe operating condition (estimated $50M-75M asset value). Addresses Operations' safety concerns thru corrective actions.
Responsible for the safe operation of newly installed equipment and/or for upgraded equipment.
Ensures compliance with federal state and local regulations as it relates to safety, environment and loss preventio
Manages capital expansion and equipment upgrades (magnitude varies from $5K - $20M).
Develops, recommends and implements production equipment changes to improve operational quality of equipment as measured by product quality, productivity or overall cost reduction.
Completes engineering projects within time and cost constraints while delivering high quality outcomes.
Troubleshoots production and quality related problems, recommending solutions for both short- and long-term.
Supports local maintenance with managing all production and facility control systems (Process Chillers, Ovens Heaters, Compressed air, HVAC, electrical service, Gas service, PLC'S, Human machine interfaces, Drives, etc.).
Manages Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering, Control engineering, Civil engineering projects and design work from both internal and external resources.
Designs and engineers dies, tooling and custom machinery for use in production.
Manages strategic tooling vendors to support production needs.
Supports local maintenance with maintaining and preserving operating equipment, buildings, and plant equipment assets.
Directly manages or dotline manages plant maintenance.
Supports local maintenance with developing and adhering to preventative maintenance program to ensure continued equipment operation.
Manages equipment and equipment supply vendors to minimize supply inventories.
Develops and maintains adequate equipment record files including drawings, cost records, etc., for plant maintenance.
Responsible for plant engineering and maintenance budget where assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
10 years of Manufacturing Experience
Ability to travel as needed as much as 50%
Plastics equipment, web handling and/or processing experience preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong leadership skills and team orientation
Strong mechanical aptitude
Strong time management skills
Advanced Computer skills to include AutoCAD and Solidworks experience
Experience with PLC’s (programmable logic controls)
Project management experience
Vendor negotiation skills
Machine and tooling design experience
