This position is responsible for the management of engineering disciplines related with Wyandotte Engineering Hub activities and technical support. This team provides the lead role for detailed engineering and design of small- to medium-sized capital projects in existing plants and infrastructure facilities, as well as engineering support for Instrument/ Controls, Electrical, Civil/Structural and Mechanical disciplines. Responsible for leading the design efforts preserving and ensuring quality and deliverables from our engineering partners and architectural firms. Provides discipline leadership through participation in Site, North America, and Global Center of Excellence (CoE) activities.
Engineering Disciplines Manager (1702986) – Wyandotte, MI
Formula for Success: You Will...
Serve as leader of the Engineering Disciplines Team, providing leadership in the preparation of Front End Loading design packages, Detailed Design Engineering and Studies, typically for more than 100 active projects
Conduct planning discussions with Project Managers to coordinate Disciplines team work execution and expectations.
Determine which design work is performed by outside resources, and for monitoring and evaluating performance/quality of the design work of outside engineering firms.
Develop work management and execution strategies for Wyandotte Engineering Hub led activities to align with supported activities.
Drive efficiency and effectiveness across functional group support to Wyandotte Engineering Hub, particularly EHS and Procurement.
Responsible for the personnel development and training of the Engineers, Designers, and clerical support within the Disciplines Team.
May coordinate the review and implementation of new and revised BASF Corporation Standards and Procedures as leader of North American Design Discipline COEs.
Assure that relevant Design and Technical Standards are consistently and correctly applied to capital investments and technical support across the Sites.
Provide leadership to assure that interdisciplinary checking of design work is performed.
Assure consistent compliance with regulatory requirements and site master planning guidelines.
Develop and implement a strategy for document control services for project and other related functions.
Implement continuous work process improvements to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the discipline engineering group.
Responsible for resource planning, quality gate management, and tracking performance KPIs such as man-hour and schedule indices for each discipline.
Manage/foster contractor in-house and outside relationship.
Management of Site Technical Standards.
Responsible for 8 direct reports and 4-8 contractor resources.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You...
Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, with 12 or more years of project engineering or design experience in a chemical / petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment.
5 or more years of proven managerial and leadership experience
Knowledge of chemical plant design, unit operations, and techniques of the chemical industry, as well as familiarity with the products, raw materials, and processes of supported plants.
Available for up to 20% travel in support of the business.
Ability to work on multiple projects and tasks at one time.
Self-starter, excellent communication skills, organization, coordination, influencing, and leadership skills.
Ability to lead and manage an organization of highly-skilled discipline engineering resources.
Working knowledge of capital purchasing and accounting practices, relevant discipline cost engineering, and engineering contracting.
Working knowledge of CAD/CAE systems and management practices for controlling technical documentation
Professional Engineer License.
Direct Capital Project Management experience is a plus.
