The Technical Service Specialist (TSS) provides technical and application development support for Account Managers, Manufacturing, and customers (OEM’s and molders) for Evonik Molding Compounds products in the medical market. The TSE is a technical and product expert in the commercial organization and a liaison between R&D, manufacturing and sales & marketing functions. The TSE will lead technical projects in support of the business strategy and marketing programs as well as train and coach the sales team and support functions to leverage Evonik’s value proposition and specify our products in new applications.
Responsibilities •Support and participate in Evonik’s Safety Program. •Investigate and resolve customer issues and complaints related to quality and productivity using problem solving techniques, such as Six Sigma methodology, while utilizing field and laboratory resources. This includes customer correspondence (e.g. technical and call reports), mold and part design optimization as well as plastic processing trials at customers and molders in order to maintain and support existing business. •Build a professional and trusting relationship with customers which is necessary to identify and investigate issues in very complex and ambiguous situations and sell his/her technical recommendations related to the process or product performance. •Lead technical projects such as: development of technical sales, material selection and application development tools, product portfolio management, update and preparation of product literature and technical library, competitive analysis, case studies, etc. in support of the business strategy, sales key and targets account plans, new market penetration initiatives and marketing programs. •Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing and commercial groups to map customers’ needs and conduct field trials in support of new product introduction and product performance optimization projects. •Participate in product and process training seminars at customer facilities and technical society meetings. Provide technical support at trade shows.
Requirements •Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science or a similar science/engineering degree with 5 years minimum experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience in the plastics industry is required. •Strong background in polymer science, plastic processing technologies (injection molding, extrusion, thermoforming etc.), process optimization and DOE’s. Preferably in the medical field. •Experience with mold and part design, structural analysis, FMEA as well as CAE and CAD simulation and modelling software (Moldflow, Solidworks etc.). •Expert technical understanding of customer end-use applications. •Understanding of marketing fundamentals and technical selling process. •Demonstrated experience working effectively within a matrixed multicultural and multifunctional environment.
