This position will require a results-oriented professional to be responsible for executing a variety of process-related projects. Personnel in this role provide a high level of expertise in the polymer reaction engineering area, particularly by way of compuational tools and modeling, to solve problems, develop new processes, and scale-up new growth products. Projects will vary in scope from process upgrades to identification and development of new process technology to support existing and new manufacturing processes. The ability to apply fundamental principles and develop new capabilities to solve problems is needed. These developments must be translated to practical solutions and implemented in projects at the commercial scale.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and execute process development projects using computational tools and modeling and experimental techniques in support of our polymers, coatings resins, and plasticizers areas
Develop deep understanding of equipment, operation, and typical experimental methods at lab, pilot, and commercial scales, and be able to obtain data from any of these for process models and insights used for scale-up
Actively participate in multifunctional project teams to execute projects
Leverage expertise and fundamental knowledge to deliver breakthrough processes and/or products
Apply engineering and scientific fundamentals to existing and new areas of interest
Communicate clearly project progress and accomplishments verbally and in writing
Effectively communicate ideas and data with other Eastman groups, and use expertise for consultations
Document discoveries in technical reports and invention
Essential Skills and Abilities:
PhD in Chemical Engineering
MUST have experience in modeling and use of computational tools
Fundamental knowledge of polyester or other polymerization process technology or have a high potential to develop this level of expertise
Expertise in analysis of complex reaction systems
Initiative in looking for new process technology opportunities
Ability to work in a team and contribute both as a team leader and as a team member
Ability to work independently
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Broad interests and willingness to take on relatively undefined challenges
